Charlie Kirk Shot and Killed At Utah Event

It is the fucking guns.

Trump ally Charlie Kirk was reportedly shot and killed at Utah Valley University during an event for The American Comeback Tour, hosted by the Turning Point USA chapter at UVU.

Video footage of the shooting went viral on Twitter, showing Kirk getting shot in the neck and students running from the area. The TPUSA press team confirmed that Kirk had been shot and was hospitalized — he unfortunately passed away.

As a fellow creator, this is not something that the political left should be supporting. This creates a deeply unsafe environment for everyone — celebrating someone’s death is not where we should be going as a country. Political disagreements should never turn violent — that’s not how democracy works.

People should not be resorting to violence — this is a really, really scary moment for us as a country, coming just a couple of months after Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota were assassinated. As long as violent rhetoric is normalized in this country, violence, and specifically political violence, is going to rise. We need to reclaim our morality as a country, and we need real, common sense gun reform — because it is the fucking guns.

This is also further proof that gun violence affects everyone, regardless of political affiliation, race, or gender — another American family has been ripped apart because of guns and it should never have been allowed to happen. Despite Charlie Kirk’s previous comments saying deaths from gun violence are ‘unfortunately worth it' to keep the Second Amendment, I don’t think we should have any gun deaths at all.

The same day, there was a shooting at a school in Colorado where three students were shot and are now in critical condition. So many students have had their lives changed irrevocably today — all because of the prevalence of guns in our society. Something needs to change.

I hope Charlie Kirk’s family finds peace, and I hope that we can finally come together as a country to pass common sense gun laws.
