Democrats Finally Move To Defund Ice

It's time to grow a backbone

ICE murdered another innocent person in Minneapolis today, and it looks like Senate Dems have finally had enough.

In a statement, Chuck Schumer said Senate Dems won’t vote for the appropriations bill if funding for the DHS (and ICE) is included, a reversal for a few Dems that previously said they would support the bill. If this appropriations bill doesn’t pass, the government will shut down again on Friday — and Republicans will have caused it once again by trying to force through legislation that will make life worse for all Americans. First it was cutting healthcare, now it’s sending more funding to a masked, unnamed, and unregulated secret police force terrorizing the streets of American cities.

This comes after ICE killed Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse that they shot around 10 times according to eyewitness videos from the scene, who was protecting other peaceful protesters from the abuse of ICE agents. In one video, while shots were being fired, another ICE agent could be seen clapping — and as agents walked away, one of them mockingly said, “boo hoo.” That’s the level of depravity we’ve been dealing with, and Senate Democrats are finally fighting back.

Obviously, the White House is already spinning their lies, saying Alex was threatening ICE agents. All the videos from the altercation prove otherwise — the only people that escalated the situation were the ICE agents themselves. Despite that, AOC warns that by painting protesters, Gov. Walz, and Mayor Frey as inciters, Kristy Noem and Trump will use ICE violence as an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act and send the military into our cities.

Withholding funding is a step in the right direction, but we need Dems to rein in Trump’s attempted militarization on every front. We cannot let more innocent people die at the hands of this secret police force — Dems need to step up and do more, not just say more.
