While getting protested during his visit to the UN in New York, Netanyahu let slip that he’s hoping to control TikTok algorithms and push pro-Israel content to American TikTok users.
Last week, Donald Trump signed an executive order that transfers TikTok’s US ownership to an American consortium meets national security requirements mandated by a domestic law — a consortium that includes Oracle. Oracle’s founder Larry Ellison has openly supported Israel, and Netanyahu alluding to the fact that this TikTok deal will be good for Israel doesn’t bode well for the integrity of our for you pages.
Israel seems to be working hard to fix their PR problem — they were also outed this week for paying influencers to create positive content about Israel and were exposed a few weeks ago for partnering with SKDK to coordinate pro-Israel bot campaigns online.
Their influencer program reportedly allow for up to $900,000 in payments over several months to make content that shows Israel in a positive light — this comes after Israeli human rights groups and the United Nations announced that Israel is committing a genocide and more countries recognized Palestine as a state. Today, Israel intercepted a flotilla sailing to Gaza with aid and detained activists, including Greta Thunberg, leading to protests all over Europe. At the same time, Israel killed almost 100 people in Gaza today alone, missile-striking a school that was converted into a shelter twice. As civil aid groups approached the site Israel struck again, killing 6 more innocent people.
Israel has already lost the PR war — their attempts to synthetically ‘shift the tide’ online are doomed to fail.
