Trump STEALING MILLIONS from Taxpayers

And MAGA Governors are helping him

It’s been two weeks since the National Guard was deployed in DC — two weeks into a fascist takeover in the nation’s capital city — and people are starting to wonder how much Trump’s ego is costing the American people. The answer? Millions.

In 2020 (the last time the National Guard was deployed in DC), it cost about $530 a day for each Guard member to be deployed. Using that data today (and not adjusting for inflation/ other financial changes), Trump is wasting more than $1 million per day on his show of authoritarian force — and the MAGA governors of West Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Ohio, and Tennessee are aiding and abetting by sending their troops too.

To reiterate, that’s over $1 million per day on an unwanted, unnecessary military presence sent to ‘prevent violent crime’ in a city that has its lowest crime rate in 30 years and that is only stationed in the areas with the lowest amount of crime anyway — but the highest amount of tourists and foot traffic. One. Million. Dollars. to have people in uniforms standing around, watching VOLO kickball games, taking pictures with JD Vance, hitting civilian cars with their tanks while running red lights, terrorizing the most vulnerable people in our city, and generally causing more problems than they’re solving.

With no end in sight to this useless deployment, the National Guard itself is worried about its funding. National Guard Major General Greg Porter said that some states may now face challenges in responding to situations in which they are usually deployed, like disaster recovery and relief, due to funding inconsistencies. So, Trump’s fascism will now likely lead to even more preventable deaths because funding to keep our National Guard ready to respond to real emergencies has been wasted on his show of force.

I can’t imagine many guard members even want to be here — they’ve been taken from their day-to-day jobs and families and sent to a place that doesn’t need them (and has made clear that they don’t want them). Sometimes the right choice is the popular choice — send these guard members home and get them out of DC.
